Why We Don't Lock You Into Contracts
Most marketing agencies require 12-month contracts with hefty cancellation fees. We don't. Here's why.
The Industry Standard
- 12-month minimum contracts
- Early termination penalties (3-6 months)
- Auto-renewal clauses in fine print
- Data held hostage when you leave
The GhostLabs Way
- Month-to-month, always
- 30-day notice to cancel
- No penalties, ever
- All your data goes with you
Why We Do This
The cynical reason: Contracts exist to protect underperforming agencies. When you can't leave, they don't have to try as hard. Month-to-month means we have to earn your business every single month.
The practical reason: Bad fits happen. Sometimes marketing isn't the right investment for a business right now. Sometimes priorities change. You shouldn't pay thousands to terminate a relationship that isn't working.
The belief reason: We think if someone wants to leave our agency, we've already failed. Trapping them doesn't fix that—it just makes them resentful while we collect their money.
"But Doesn't Marketing Take Time?"
Yes. SEO takes 3-6 months. Brand building takes longer. Some agencies use this as justification for long contracts.
Our answer: Just because something takes time doesn't mean you should be locked in. If we're doing our job, you'll see progress in the first 30-60 days—even if full results take months. That progress should make you want to stay.
If after 90 days you see no progress, no momentum, no reason to believe things are working—you should absolutely be able to leave. We'd want to leave too.
Our Promise
We'll tell you upfront how long things should take. We'll show you progress monthly. And if we're not delivering, we'll be the first to tell you—not hide behind a contract while we figure it out.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you're so confident, why do some agencies require contracts?
Cynically: to trap underperforming clients. Generously: because SEO and marketing take time, and they want commitment. But we'd rather earn that commitment monthly than force it contractually.
What if I want to cancel?
Give us 30 days notice. We'll wrap up any pending work, ensure you have access to everything, and transition you cleanly. No penalties, no hostage situations.
Don't you lose clients this way?
Sometimes. But we'd rather lose a client who wasn't a good fit than trap one who's unhappy. Our retention is actually higher than industry average because clients stay because they want to, not because they have to.
